About the church of Christ in Ector Texas

This congregation of the churches of Christ (Romans 16:16), located in Ector Texas, is simply a congregation of the Lord’s people trying to worship in the same manner and the same methods the churches of Christ did when it was started by Christ nearly 2000 years ago.
Our mission is to be a Christ-focused family simply committed to living for God, loving each other, and leading our community and the world to Jesus and back to his church. We believe that the Bible is the inspired, authoritative, Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17). We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that the forgiveness of sins, salvation and eternal life can be found in none other (John 3:16; John 14:6). Our goals address families, youth, people in need, community service, personal spiritual growth and development, and helping the local community get to Heaven.

What Does It Mean To Be A Christian?
“He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to repent.” 2 Peter 3:9
We are focused, led, and committed people who want to follow God and do His will. God calls us to obey and follow Him through His will and word (Deuteronomy 7:4-11; Luke 14:25-33). Jesus also tells us that as disciples we must love each other (John 13:33-34). God is a God who loves people and desires that all people be saved (Ezekiel 18:23, 32; 1 Timothy 2:3-4). Since the Spirit is leading us, we are willing to go wherever God calls. Whether it is Africa, South America, China, the inner cities, or in Ector Texas, we are a people who want to lead our world and community to Jesus. Because of these convictions we are committed to preaching the Word of God and living for Christ wherever we are. All people have sinned and need Jesus (Romans 3:23-24; Ephesians 2:11-15), including us. God is a God of grace and mercy and brings forgiveness, through the death of Jesus Christ, to those who turn to Him and obey Him (Titus3:1-5; Hebrews 5:8-10).
This grace and salvation come when people choose to obey God by believing in His son, repenting, confessing their sins, and being baptized into Jesus (Acts 2:36-38). It is a choice that all people must make because God has given us the chance to choose or reject Jesus (John 1:10-13; 20: 30-31).
People are saved by God’s grace, which comes with a price, the death of Christ and our death in Christ (Matthew 10:39; Luke 9:23-27; Romans 6:1-12;12:1-2; Ephesians 2:6-10). We believe that true freedom can only come in Christ (John 8:31-34). When people make the choice to change their lives and put on Christ in baptism they are added to His church (Galatians3:25-29; Acts 2:47). The Spirit is within them and they are children of God, led by the Spirit (Acts 2:38-39; Romans 8:5-17).
As children we have a responsibility to live in the image of our Father and to reflect His nature and character to the world. The Spirit helps transform our lives so that we may become like the Father (Matthew 5:43-48;Colossians 3:1-17).
The church of Christ in Ector seeks to live in the image of God by simply worshiping together, teaching those around us about God’s mercy and love through Jesus, living by the Spirit showing love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control; and honoring God’s character in the world.
When you hear the message of the Gospel of Jesus and decide to believe in Him (John 3:16) you confess devotion to Him (Matthew 10:32), decide to repent of your life of sin, and are baptized by being immersed in water (Acts 2:38; 1 Peter 3:21) for the forgiveness of your sins, you become a new creation in Christ(Galatians 3:25-29). You are born again of water and spirit (John 3:1-6) and begin the great road to growth in the Kingdom of God (Romans 6:1-7; 2 Corinthians 7:8-13) as a member of the Lords church. Your whole life changes!
Membership in the church means that we are an active part of Christ’s body working to fulfill his will of bringing as many lost souls as possible into his Body before it is to late. Membership has traditionally been a term used for clubs, groups, organizations, or teams. While many churches have tried different terms such as workmanship, on the role, or identified with this congregation, the terminology in English generally means the same. However, members of the church are members of Christ’s Body worldwide (not a man made local or regional institution). Members of a local congregation attend worship locally, and regularly (Hebrews 10:22-25). Jesus wants for us to create a community of believers that we can study and grow with in our local geographic area. This is why we are careful not to say “join the church” when we are speaking of joining the congregation and we do not say “join the congregation” when we speak of joining the Lord’s Body.
When we come together, we do not observe worship (as was done at the temple) but we participate in worship. We do this when we sing, pray, listen, and take communion every week together (Ephesians 5:19-20; Colossians 3:16-18; Acts 20:7). Since the church needs money to continue its ministry we give every week and in special circumstances (1 Corinthians 16:1-3).
Members of the church in Ector are simply, Christians. We must be people who turn from sin and reject Satan. We have turned to God and been baptized into Jesus by being born of both water and Spirit (John 3:1-6).
After our conversion the Scriptures encourage us to continue to turn from sin daily. We do this by resisting the devil and becoming like Jesus through prayer and spiritual discipline. Satan has no part of our lives and we ask him to flee from our presence (James 4:7). We worship and commune weekly together and avoid gossip, division, and hatred of our brothers and sisters in Christ. We love all people, share the good news of Jesus, and practice acts of mercy and love for all men, women, and children.
